In Memory of Mac Tonnies

“Consciousness is a potential technology; we are exquisite machines, nothing less than sentient patterns. As such, there’s no convincing technical reason we can’t eventually upload ourselves into matrices of our design and choosing. It’s likely the phenomenon we casually call “intelligence” will cease to be strictly biological as we begin to merge with our machines more meaningfully and intimately. (Philip K. Dick once wrote that “living and nonliving things are exchanging properties.” I suspect that in a few hundred years, barring disaster, separating the animate from the inanimate will probably be an exercise in futility.) Ultimately, we have two options: self-mutate by venturing off-planet in minds and bodies of our own design, or succumb to extinction.”
~Mac Tonnies

A wonderful pic, im sure he would be smiling to see how much he IS valued by so many in this genre
Just so sad…he will be missed.
A young man who’ll be missed. My condolences to the family and friends. RIP.
Love the portrait of Mac Tonnies! Where can I purchase a print?
Oh what a wonderful picture and quote. You’ve captured exactly the Mac I will always remember fondly and miss. I like what someone said last week about him being Merlin, homesick for the future. Love that.
Thanks for sharing this. What a guy. What an amazing, magnificent guy.
Kartott- Thanks for the kind words. There are no prints, but I do have a larger resolution file I can upload, and you can print yourself. Anyone is free to take the pic from here and post it where ever they want.
This is simply stunning, Jeff. A Masterwork and the perfect muse as the subject and object.
I will miss you Mac until I see you on the other side my brother. I hope you are making others think there as well as only you can. Create your journey well my friend…
Namaste
Jeff - I (and other Mac Tonnies fans) would be most grateful!
I had heard about this recently. My sympathies to his friends and family. The world has lost a good man.
